Last night I headed out to the Lower East Side to check out GQ Editor, Mark Anthony Green’s opening exhibit at the Poppington Gallery.
This was my first time checking out the Poppington gallery space, which is run by Damon Dash and his curators. The exhibit brought out a diverse crowd varying in age and style.
Green’s exhibit called, ‘VIBES ARE THE ONLY CURRENCY’ showcased text stitched on heavy cotton canvases that were painted over until it was saturated to the desired hue.
The canvases on the walls were like tangible quotes brought to life in the physical form. The phrases and text on these works reflect Green’s modern sensibility of the internet, as they could be an example of what one may see as a quote posted on social media. He plays with the internet’s current and often limited use of text by expressing a big idea behind a few words.
The art speaks for itself!
